Video: Flash Flood Sweeps Away Vehicle Near Lampasas, Texas; Driver Survives

LAMPASAS, Texas – July 13, 2025 — A vehicle was swept away by a powerful flash flood around 4:00 a.m. Sunday on Highway 183, west of Lampasas in the Texas Hill Country. Authorities say the driver escaped the rising water and survived, but the vehicle has not yet been recovered.
The flood was triggered by a rapid surge in Lucy Creek, which locals say has risen to levels higher than ever seen before. The incident underscores the extreme danger of nighttime flash floods, especially in low-lying areas.
Officials also report that the nearby Lampasas River has surged past 27 feet, approaching major flood stage, and is being closely monitored.
Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways and heed all weather alerts. Flash flooding remains a serious threat across the region as heavy rains continue.
