Robin Westman Identified in Minnesota Catholic Church Mass Shooting That Killed 2 Children

Police in Minneapolis have identified the suspect in the Minnesota school shooting that shocked the community during the first week of classes. Authorities confirmed that Robin Westman, a man in his early 20s, opened fire inside Annunciation Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday morning, killing two children and injuring at least 17 others before taking his own life.

Children Killed and Multiple Injured

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said the young victims were just 8 and 10 years old, sitting in the pews when Westman opened fire with a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol. Five of the injured were admitted to Children’s Minnesota pediatric trauma hospital, while Hennepin Healthcare also confirmed it is treating several victims.

Witness Accounts of the Shooting

Neighbors reported hearing dozens of shots lasting several minutes. Longtime churchgoer Bill Bienemann described the scene as “shocking,” noting he initially could not believe the sound was gunfire because of the sheer volume and intensity.

Community and National Response

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz expressed heartbreak, saying the Minnesota school shooting has marred the first week of school for children and teachers. Former President Donald Trump also released a statement, saying he had been fully briefed and that the FBI was on scene assisting local law enforcement.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are now piecing together why Robin Westman carried out this attack, which police described as a “deliberate act of violence against children and innocent people.” Increased patrols have been ordered in nearby Richfield and across Minneapolis to reassure the community.
