Video: “Firenado’ Spotted Near La Sal, Utah as #QuarryFire Threatens Homes in Deer Creek Canyon

LA SAL, Utah — July 13, 2025: A dramatic scene unfolded in southeastern Utah today as a firenado — a rare fire-induced tornado — was spotted during the ongoing Quarry Fire near Deer Creek Canyon, not far from La Sal.
The phenomenon was captured by a neighbor living above the canyon, who shared a photo showing a towering column of smoke and rotating fire directly across from his home.
“This was taken by a neighbor who lives above me. He is looking directly across Deer Creek Canyon where my house is located at the #quarryfire,” the homeowner wrote.
“I just saw smoke. I’m fortunate to still have my house. Thank you again to everyone helping us get through this and fight the fire!”
The Quarry Fire has been burning through dry terrain and brush in the area, prompting evacuations and a large-scale response from firefighters and emergency crews.
Local authorities have not reported any fatalities, but structures are at risk and residents remain on high alert as crews battle shifting winds and intense flames.
The fiery tornado — though visually stunning — is also extremely dangerous, forming when intense heat and turbulent winds combine during a wildfire, creating a rapidly rotating column of flames and debris.
Fire officials continue to monitor the blaze closely and urge residents in affected areas to follow evacuation orders and safety updates.
