BREAKING: Federal Judge Blocks Trump’s Birthright Citizenship Order Nationwide

Washington, D.C. — In a major legal blow to former President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda, Federal Judge Joseph N. Laplante of New Hampshire has issued a nationwide injunction halting the enforcement of Trump’s executive order seeking to end birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants or individuals on temporary visas.
Judge Laplante also certified a class-action lawsuit to represent all affected children, expanding the case’s reach across the country.
🗣️ Calling the executive order “lawless, unconstitutional, and cruel,” Laplante cited the 14th Amendment, which guarantees citizenship to anyone born on U.S. soil, regardless of their parents’ immigration status.
The Trump administration’s order, signed in January, had triggered intense backlash and a flurry of lawsuits. Legal experts have widely viewed the attempt as an overreach of executive authority.
⚖️ The ruling comes shortly after a June 27 Supreme Court decision that restricted the use of nationwide injunctions. In response, the ACLU and several immigrant rights groups reformulated their legal challenge as a class action, paving the way for this new ruling.
This decision is likely to be appealed and could become a pivotal case in defining constitutional protections for U.S.-born children.
