Hill Country Flood Tragedy: 13 from Houston Confirmed Dead, Several Still Missing

Houston, TX – July 9, 2025 — As the deadly floodwaters from the Hill Country disaster continue to devastate communities across Texas, ABC13 has confirmed that 13 residents from the Greater Houston area have died, with several others still missing.
Among the most heartbreaking stories is that of Tim Walker, a beloved Houston artist and owner of the Neon Gallery in Montrose. Walker’s cousin, renowned attorney Dick DeGuerin, confirmed that Walker died while saving his family. On July 4, floodwaters surged into his cabin in Hunt, where Walker managed to push six family members, including his wife, children, and a grandchild, to safety before being swept away himself.
“Tim, if you had to define him, he’s a family man,” DeGuerin told ABC13. “He loves his family — both his immediate and extended family.”
Another loss was Mollie Schaffer, wife of prominent Houston attorney Randy Schaffer. In a deeply moving Facebook post, Randy shared that Mollie refused to leave their vehicle until she was sure he had escaped rising waters near their hotel in Hunt. She died saving him.
“She wouldn’t leave the car until she was sure that I had done so. She saved my life,” he wrote.
