Virginia State University Shooting Update: 5 Injured, Multiple Suspects Sought as Lockdown Is Lifted

Five people were injured in a shooting at Virginia State University early Saturday morning, August 15, with one victim in critical condition as authorities investigate multiple suspects, according to an updated statement from the university.

Five people shot outside VSU residence halls

Officers responded at approximately 1:28 a.m. to the 3300 block of Boisseau Street and found five people suffering from gunshot wounds outside Virginia State University residence halls.

All five victims were transported to area hospitals. One remains in critical condition, while the other four sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Multiple suspects involved

Virginia State University said in an earlier safety alert that the shooting involved multiple suspects.

No arrests have been announced, and authorities have not yet released details about the suspects or what led to the shooting.

Virginia State University lockdown lifted

The university confirmed that the campus lockdown has been lifted, allowing normal access to resume.

However, a significant law enforcement presence remains on campus as investigators continue processing the scene and investigating the shooting.

Police investigation continues

Chesterfield County Police are leading the investigation with assistance from Virginia State University Police, the ATF and the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
