Tornado Warning Issued for South Bend, Elkhart and Mishawaka, Indiana

A Tornado Warning is in effect for South Bend, Elkhart and Mishawaka, Indiana, until 1:30 p.m. EDT Tuesday, as a severe thunderstorm showing radar-indicated rotation moves through the region.

The warning covers a large area of northern Indiana, including Goshen, Nappanee, Plymouth, Walkerton, New Carlisle, North Liberty, Wakarusa and surrounding communities.

Pea-sized hail is possible with the storm. According to the National Weather Service warning graphic, approximately 717,957 people, 241 schools and 18 hospitals are within the warned area.

Residents in the affected area should take shelter immediately, preferably in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows.
