FIFA Crisis Deepens as UEFA, AFC and CONCACAF Unite Against Gianni Infantino
FIFA president Gianni Infantino is facing mounting pressure after UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and CONCACAF issued an extraordinary joint rebuke of FIFA’s leadership, declaring that football “belongs to no individual.”
The three powerful confederations accused FIFA of a “fundamental breach of trust” over the handling of a controversial proposal involving the sale of interests in the FIFA World Cup and other competitions to private investors. They also criticized what they described as a lack of meaningful consultation and transparency.
The latest statement significantly increases the pressure on Infantino, who has faced growing opposition from football associations over the past several days. UEFA has already said it has lost confidence in his presidency, while the dispute has developed into one of the most serious challenges to his leadership of FIFA.
The three confederations stressed that football must be governed in the interests of the game rather than any single leader, saying that “football belongs to no individual.”
The confrontation comes after FIFA abandoned its controversial investment proposal following widespread opposition from major football confederations.
