Lucy Letby will not face additional charges over six more babies, CPS confirms

LONDON, England — Lucy Letby will not face additional criminal charges over allegations involving six more babies, after an independent review upheld an earlier decision by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

The review was requested by the families of six infants under the Victims’ Right to Review scheme after prosecutors decided in January 2026 that there was insufficient evidence to bring further charges related to alleged murders and attempted murders involving nine children.

Following an extensive reassessment of the evidence by an independent prosecutor, the CPS concluded there was no basis to overturn the original decision, and no additional charges will be filed.

Letby, 36, is already serving 15 whole-life prison sentences after being convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others while working in the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016.

A public inquiry into how the crimes were able to occur is expected to publish its findings later this year.
