Briella, 3, dies after becoming trapped in toy kitchen play set at Florida babysitter’s home

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — Three-year-old Briella has died after becoming trapped inside a toy kitchen play set while at a babysitter’s home in Boynton Beach, Florida, police said.

The incident occurred on July 23 at a home in the Meadows of Boynton Beach community. Officers responded to a report of a child who was not breathing and immediately began life-saving efforts before the toddler was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Briella died on July 27, four days after the incident.

According to investigators, Briella and her sibling were being cared for at the babysitter’s home after the babysitter left the residence, leaving the children in the care of the babysitter’s spouse. Police said the spouse periodically checked on the children before finding Briella with her head trapped inside the toy kitchen play set.

The child was freed immediately, and CPR was started until emergency responders arrived.

Investigators said Briella’s sibling told police that toys had fallen inside the play kitchen, and the toddler apparently became trapped while trying to retrieve them.

No criminal charges have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
