Active water rescues are underway across parts of West Virginia as dangerous flash flooding covers roadways near Philippi, Eskdale and Parsons, with reports that U.S. Route 219 near Parsons is completely flooded.

Emergency crews are responding to flooding emergencies near Philippi and Eskdale as heavy rainfall sends water rapidly across roads and low-lying areas.

The National Weather Service confirmed flash flooding around Philippi, with emergency management reporting flooding already occurring across roads, streams and low-lying areas.

Flooding Hits Parsons Area

In Tucker County, law enforcement reported ongoing flash flooding around Parsons after 1.5 to 2.8 inches of rain fell.

Roads in the area have become flooded and impassable, and Route 219 near Parsons is reported completely covered by floodwater.

Drivers Warned to Stay Away

Authorities are urging drivers never to attempt to cross a flooded roadway. Fast-moving water can sweep vehicles away, and the depth of floodwater can be impossible to judge from inside a vehicle.

Additional heavy rainfall remains possible across West Virginia, where a flood watch continues into Monday morning.
