Flash Flooding Closes Roads Near Oak Hill and Handley, West Virginia

Flash flooding is impacting parts of West Virginia Sunday, with high water covering roads near Oak Hill and making Second Avenue in Handley impassable.

Water was reported running directly across West Virginia Route 612 near Oak Hill, creating dangerous travel conditions, while flooding has completely blocked Second Avenue in Handley.

Life-Threatening Flash Flooding

The National Weather Service warned of life-threatening flash flooding across parts of Fayette, Kanawha, Boone and Raleigh counties, including Oak Hill and Handley.

Between 2 and 3.5 inches of rain had already fallen in portions of the warned area, with additional heavy rainfall possible.

Drivers Urged to Avoid Flooded Roads

Officials are urging motorists not to attempt to drive through flooded roadways. Floodwater can rise quickly and may be deeper or moving faster than it appears.

Additional flooding remains possible as rounds of heavy rain move across already saturated areas.
