Two Dead as Wildfire Tears Through Salamis, Greece, Forcing Evacuations

Two people have been found dead as a fast-moving wildfire burns across Salamis, Greece, forcing residents to evacuate as flames threaten homes and emergency crews battle strong winds. The bodies were discovered in the Peristeria area near Andromachis Street, close to where the fire is believed to have started.

Residents Ordered to Evacuate

Repeated emergency alerts have been issued for communities on the island as the fire spreads through the Peristeria and Selinia areas. Homes have been damaged or engulfed by flames, while authorities have prepared to evacuate residents by sea if necessary.

Four People Suffer Burns

At least four people suffering from burns were taken to the Salamis Health Center. An elderly resident was also rescued from a home in the Kaki Vigla area and transported for medical treatment.

Fire Spread Rapidly

The Greek Fire Service was notified of the blaze at approximately 2:43 p.m. local time Sunday, and officials said the fire spread rapidly within just seven minutes as strong winds swept through the area.

Hundreds of firefighters and support personnel are battling the wildfire with dozens of vehicles, firefighting aircraft and helicopters as emergency operations continue across Salamis.
