Flash Flood Warning Issued for Oahu, Hawaii as Rain Falls Up to 2 Inches Per Hour

OAHU, Hawaii — A new Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Oahu, including Honolulu, Pearl City, Mililani and Waipahu, as heavy rain falls at rates of up to 2 inches per hour and streams begin rising rapidly.

Flash Flooding Developing

The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued the warning at 4:36 a.m. HST Sunday, with the alert remaining in effect until 7:30 a.m. HST. Additional bands of heavy rainfall are expected to move across the island over the next several hours.

Streams including Manoa, Pukele and Kalihi are showing rapid rises, and flash flooding is already occurring or expected to begin shortly.

Honolulu and Several Communities Included

Locations threatened by flash flooding include Honolulu, Waipio, Pearl City, Mililani, Waikele, Aiea, Wahiawa, Waipahu, Wheeler Field, Kunia, Halawa and Waiahole.

Flooding could affect highways, streets, underpasses, urban areas and other low-lying locations. Drivers are urged not to enter flooded roadways.
