Indonesia Earthquake Update: Death Toll Rises to 38 as Rescuers Search for Survivors

The death toll from the powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Indonesia has risen to at least 38, as rescue crews continue searching through collapsed buildings and struggling to reach some of the hardest-hit areas.

Officials confirmed the higher death toll Saturday as emergency teams expanded search-and-rescue operations on Flores Island and surrounding areas. At least 13 people have been reported injured, including two seriously.

Thousands Leave Affected Areas

Around 2,000 people have evacuated, while landslides, damaged roads, power outages and communication disruptions have complicated rescue operations.

The earthquake triggered tsunami waves of less than one meter in several locations before the tsunami warning was lifted.

Indonesia has also experienced numerous aftershocks following the powerful earthquake, while authorities continue assessing damage and searching for additional victims.
