Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Cairo, Whigham and Calvary, Georgia With 60 MPH Winds

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Cairo, Whigham and Calvary in southwest Georgia, with damaging wind gusts of up to 60 mph possible.

The warning remains in effect until 6:45 p.m. EDT Friday.

The National Weather Service says the storm may also produce penny-sized hail as it moves across the warned area.

More than 23,000 people are within the affected zone, which also includes several schools and at least one hospital.

Strong winds may be capable of bringing down tree limbs, damaging unsecured objects and causing isolated power outages.

Residents in the warned area should move indoors, stay away from windows and remain alert for additional severe weather warnings until the storm passes.
