Saudi Arabia Braces for Potential Coordinated Attacks by Iraqi Militias and Houthis, Official Says
Saudi Arabia is preparing for the possibility of multiple coordinated attacks by Iraqi militias working alongside the Iran-backed Houthi movement, a Saudi official told CNN amid escalating regional tensions.
According to the official, the warning is based on multiple intelligence reports from Saudi Arabia and regional partners indicating that Iraqi militias, in coordination with the Houthis and under the guidance of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), may be planning attacks against Gulf targets in the near future.
The official said the reports come as Saudi Arabia continues to support regional de-escalation efforts, adding that the Kingdom “will take all necessary measures to respond to any aggression.”
The warning follows the Houthis’ recent claim of an attack on a Saudi oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden. Saudi Arabia has previously faced missile and drone attacks launched by the Houthis from Yemen, as well as attacks attributed to Iran-aligned militias in Iraq.
