Fatal Crash Closes Interstate 20 Near Bert Kouns Friday Afternoon

Tragedy on the highway Friday afternoon leaves 2 people dead. The crash happened on I-20 eastbound near Bert Kouns just before 5pm. Two 18 wheelers collided blocking both lanes of traffic.

Investigators believe one big rig was headed westbound but left the roadway and crashed crossing into the eastbound lanes where it was hit by another 18 wheeler which was headed east between Bert Kouns and Pines Road.

Two people were critically injured in the wreck and life air rescue flew at least one of the victims to the hospital. But 2 people died from apparent head injuries suffered during this horrific crash.

Witnesses say medical personnel did stop and try to render aid at the scene before EMS crews arrived. Shreveport police Cpl. Chris Bordelon has confirmed two people died in this crash. The cleanup on I-20 is expected to take several hours.

Highway 80 is being used as the detour since both eastbound lanes are closed.
