Brighton man arrested after threatening phone call to Washington County Hospital

A Brighton man is in jail after threatening a hospital, forcing it to go on lockdown, on Thursday morning.

Arrest and charges

The Washington Police Department responded to Washington County Hospital around 9:15 a.m. after hospital staff got a threatening phone call.

Police say a man identified as 60-year-old Roger Lee Smith called the hospital and made threats including saying, "lots of people were going to get hurt." Smith also said a particular hospital employee should be out front and wear a vest, suggesting a threat of a forcible felony.

The Washington Police Department clarified no other locations or facilities were identified as a target or threat during this incident.

Charges and court proceedings

Smith was found in Washington where he was arrested and charged with first-degree harassment. He was taken to Washington County Jail.
