Update: Texas Air National Guard Confirms Pilot Safe After F-16 Crash in Michigan

The Texas Air National Guard has confirmed that the pilot involved in Thursday’s F-16 Fighting Falcon crash in Blair Township, Michigan, is safe.

The aircraft belonged to the 149th Fighter Wing and was flying a routine training mission from the Air National Guard’s Combat Readiness Training Center in Alpena when it crashed. The pilot successfully ejected from the jet and was recovered.

Officials said the pilot was taken to a local hospital and was reported to be in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

The crash prompted an evacuation order within about a one-mile radius of the site near County Road 633 and Jefferson Place as emergency crews responded.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. While radio traffic reportedly raised the possibility of a bird strike, military officials have not confirmed a cause.
