Harare Man Arrested After Wife Dies In Shocking Hatfield Incident

A 30-year-old Harare man has been arrested after his wife was allegedly strangled to death with a shoelace following a domestic dispute.

Arrest and charges

The incident reportedly happened at Maruwa Farm Compound in Hatfield on Thursday, 17 September 2026.

The suspect, identified as Stephen Sarurai, was arrested by police in connection with the death of his 26-year-old wife, Zvikomborero Tari.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest in a statement carried by New Zimbabwe.

“Police in Hatfield arrested Stephen Sarurai (30) in connection with a case of murder which occurred at a house at Maruwa Farm Compound, Hatfield on 17/09/26,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

Police allege that Tari died after being strangled with a shoelace during a domestic dispute. The dispute reportedly involved allegations of infidelity.

“The suspect allegedly strangled his wife, Zvikomborero Tari (26) to death with a shoelace following a domestic dispute emanating from allegations of infidelity.”

Charges and court proceedings

The circumstances surrounding the alleged confrontation have not been fully detailed by police. Sarurai is expected to appear in court as the investigation continues.
