KITCHARAO, Philippines — A preliminary magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck near Kitcharao in Agusan del Norte on Saturday, August 22, at approximately 12:44 p.m. local time.

The earthquake was centered about 6 kilometers south of Kitcharao at a shallow depth of approximately 10 kilometers.

Initial seismic data placed the earthquake in northern Mindanao, near communities in Agusan del Norte.
