Two Las Cruces parents are facing child abuse charges after authorities said their children tested positive for drugs and were found neglected reportedly ridden with lice. Dona Ana County jail records show that Justine Destiny Barboa, 27, and Danny Lee Perkins, 25, were arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of child abuse.
According to the criminal complaint, the charges come after the night of Aug.
2, when deputies with the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Office found the two parents sleeping in their car with their two children (ages 4 and 5) near the baseball field on Dona Ana School Road and discovered that the children appeared neglected, as the vehicle was filled with trash, the kids looked dirty, had open wounds, and lice were visible in their heads.
In the complaint, investigators described in detail the wounds they found on the children and what a drug test revealed.
