A house explosion shook a neighborhood in Annapolis Wednesday, killing one person and injuring another. Anne Arundel County Fire officials believe propane may have caused the explosion, but said the cause cannot be confirmed until investigators locate a propane source at the site.
The site has been deemed unsafe, roads in the area remain closed and residents of at least four nearby homes have been evacuated. At a press briefing, Anne Arundel County fire officials said they received multiple 911 calls at around 12:17 p.m. reporting the explosion and massive damage from a two-story home.
A woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a man was flown to Bayview Burn Center. Significant levels of propane were still being detected inside the collapse debris.
"Once we find where that propane tank is, we are going to secure that so that we can move into what we call a secondary search of that structure, it is significantly the integrity is significantly challenged," Anne Arundel County Fire Assistant Chief Larry Schultz said.
