DORION — The Township of Dorion needs five people for its municipal council. And in each of the last few election years, that’s precisely how many have stepped forward. In 2022, one person filed papers for the position of reeve and four for councillor. Same thing in 2018 and 2014 and 2010.

In fact, according to municipal clerk-treasurer Mavis Harris, contested elections are not the norm in this township of fewer than 400. The reeve and councillor generally get in by acclamation, she told Newswatch ahead of Friday’s close of nominations.

Harris, a 20-year Dorion employee, said she can’t recall the municipality ever having more than the necessary five candidates.
