Two people were arrested Wednesday after law enforcement found two children inside an abandoned home full of filth and falling into disrepair, according to the North Charleston Police Department. Officers were sent to a residence on Southern Street shortly after midnight. The call was for a reported burglary.

However, when police arrived, they saw Christopher Lee Morris, 43, from Goose Creek, shirtless and walking away from the property's front gate. When police entered the home, they found it in "severe disrepair," police said. The building had broken windows and no running water or electricity.

Law enforcement also reported discovering drug paraphernalia throughout the home, including a glass pipe, foil and several butane lighters. They also reported seeing live and dead cockroaches on nearly every surface. Inside the home was Kendall Zayne Witherspoon, 25, from North Charleston. She also had two small children in strollers.

Police then removed Witherspoon and the children. Morris and Witherspoon were taken into custody and charged with unlawful conduct toward a child. Both were transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center. READ MORE | "Four arrested after North Charleston apartment shooting leaves man dead, police say."
