Severe Thunderstorms Force Milan-Bound Flights to Divert to Rome and Turin
MILAN, Italy — Severe thunderstorms forced multiple flights bound for Milan Malpensa Airport to divert to Rome and Turin on Sunday evening, August 16, disrupting arrivals at one of Italy’s busiest aviation hubs.
Aircraft approaching Milan entered holding patterns before being redirected as visibility fell to about three kilometers and the cloud ceiling dropped to approximately 1,000 feet.
Eurocontrol had warned of thunderstorms and dangerous cumulonimbus clouds across northern Italy, with storm activity forecast to affect Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate and Bergamo airports.
Flights Reported Diverted
The affected services included Emirates Flight EK91 from Dubai and Air Cairo Flight SM803 from Cairo, which were reported diverted toward Rome Fiumicino.

- Wizz Air Flight W46605 from Palermo
- EasyJet Flight U23508 from Palermo
- EasyJet Flight U27669 from Lisbon
- Ryanair Flight FR3730 from Catania
