Strong Thunderstorms Could Bring 60 MPH Wind Gusts to Central Appalachians and NC/VA Piedmont

Strong thunderstorms could produce locally damaging wind gusts near 60 mph across parts of the Central Appalachians and the North Carolina-Virginia Piedmont through mid-afternoon.

The latest outlook highlights a period of concern lasting until approximately 3:15 p.m. CDT, with storms capable of producing strong, localized wind gusts as they move through the region.

The Storm Prediction Center currently places the probability of a severe thunderstorm watch at only 20%, meaning a watch is not expected at this time.

Even without a formal watch, residents should remain alert because isolated storms may still become strong enough to produce damaging winds, downed tree limbs and brief power outages.

People across the affected areas should monitor local weather alerts and be prepared to move indoors if thunderstorms intensify.
