Severe Thunderstorm Near Reno Threatens 60 MPH Winds and Quarter-Size Hail

A severe thunderstorm was detected near Lockwood, about 15 miles east of Reno, Nevada, at 1:20 p.m. PDT on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

The storm was moving northeast at 5 mph and was capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. The National Weather Service warned that vehicles, roofs, siding, fences and trees could sustain damage.

The warning covers Storey County, south-central Washoe County and northern Lyon County until 2 p.m. PDT. Derby Dam, Spanish Springs, Mustang and Patrick are among the locations in the storm’s path.
