Georgia Severe Thunderstorm Warning: 60 MPH Winds Threaten Fitzgerald, Ocilla and Queensland

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Fitzgerald, Ocilla, Queensland and surrounding communities in south-central Georgia until 5:30 p.m. EDT Thursday.

Damaging Winds Could Reach 60 MPH

The National Weather Service warned that the storm could produce wind gusts reaching 60 mph, capable of damaging trees, roofs, power lines and unsecured outdoor objects.

Penny-sized hail, frequent lightning and torrential rainfall are also possible.

Nearly 25,000 People Inside Warning Area

Approximately 24,921 people, nine schools and two hospitals are located within the warned area.

Other affected communities include Irwinville and Osierfield.

Residents Urged to Move Indoors

Residents should immediately enter a sturdy building and remain in an interior room away from windows until the storm passes.

Drivers should prepare for poor visibility, standing water, fallen branches and rapidly changing road conditions.
