Severe thunderstorms possible across interior New England on Monday

BOSTON, Mass. — The National Weather Service says isolated severe thunderstorms are possible across parts of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island on Monday afternoon as a cold front approaches from the west.

The greatest risk is expected across interior Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, where increasing instability and wind shear could allow storms to become organized.

The threat is expected between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., with the primary hazards including:

• Damaging wind gusts
• Heavy rainfall

Secondary threats include:

• Frequent lightning
• Localized urban and poor-drainage flooding

Residents, especially those with outdoor plans, are encouraged to stay weather-aware and monitor forecasts throughout the afternoon as conditions develop.
