British welterweight champion

Constantin Ursu successfully defended his British and Commonwealth titles in August

Official response and confirmed impact

Unbeaten British welterweight champion Constantin Ursu says he wants a world title shot within the next 12 months.

The 26-year-old, who is also the Commonwealth champion, retained his belts in August with an eighth-round technical knockout win over Ben Vaughan.

The Moldova-born fighter, who has been based in Plymouth since he was 18, won his Lonsdale belt in March with a points victory over Owen Cooper.

"I want to be world champion next year," Ursu told South West.

"I've been offered two IBO world titles to fight with Jack Rafferty, and they say no," added Ursu, who has won all 16 of his professional bouts.

"But if they change their mind I'm ready to get this fight." From Moldova to Plymouth – the boxer aiming for a world title
