More than 2,000 police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed across the Delhi University campus as counting of votes for the DUSU elections began at 8 am on Saturday.

Security has been tightened around the counting centre at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium in North Campus, where votes for the four central panel posts, president, vice president, secretary and joint secretary, are being counted.

The Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election results are being closely watched as they are expected to reflect the issues and concerns shaping the student community and indicate which student organisation has connected better with voters.

A senior police officer said extensive security arrangements have been made around the counting venue and other sensitive areas to ensure the process and announcement of results take place without any disruption.

Police personnel have been stationed at strategic locations, while foot patrols, motorcycle squads and PCR vans are monitoring movement across the campuses.
