Premier League chiefs considering ending Saturday 3pm: Latest Details
The Premier League are considering holding talks about abolishing the 3pm Saturday blackout on football games on TV. Currently, from 2:45pm to 5:15pm on Saturdays, it’s forbidden for the Premier League to broadcast matches live in the UK, commonly referred to as the blackout.
This law was originally brought in during the 1960s as clubs were afraid fans wouldn’t attend matches during a time when most of their revenue came from gate receipts.
However, as we know all too well, TV rights are the real money maker these days, especially for Premier League clubs, and there’s definitely revenue to be had if UK rights can be sold for the Saturday 3pm matches.
