Salamis, Greece Wildfires Kill Two as Evacuations Ordered Near Peristeria

Two people have been found dead after separate wildfires struck the Greek island of Salamis, triggering evacuation orders and a major emergency response near Peristeria.
Evacuations Underway
Authorities issued repeated emergency alerts ordering residents to leave threatened areas. Firefighters and the coast guard also prepared for possible evacuations by sea.
Strong Winds Hamper Firefighters
Strong winds complicated efforts to contain the flames. Ground crews, firefighting aircraft and helicopters were deployed, supported by volunteers and municipal water tankers.
The identities of the two victims have not yet been released.
