Flash Flood Warning Issued for Parts of Five West Virginia Counties as Heavy Rain Intensifies

WEST VIRGINIA — A new Flash Flood Warning was issued at 4:17 a.m. EDT Sunday for parts of Doddridge, Harrison, Tyler, Pleasants and Ritchie counties after 1.5 to 2 inches of rain fell across the area.

Flash Flooding Possible Through 7:15 A.M.

The warning remains in effect until 7:15 a.m. EDT as thunderstorms continue producing heavy rainfall.

Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, threatening small creeks and streams, streets, highways, underpasses and other low-lying areas.

Communities Under the Warning

Locations in the warned area include St. Marys, Middlebourne, Salem, Sistersville, Pennsboro, West Union, Matamoras, Ellenboro and Friendly.

The warning also includes Route 50 between mile markers 38 and 66 in West Virginia.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and low-water crossings, especially during the overnight and early morning hours.
