Illinois Flash Flood Warning Issued for Champaign and Vermilion Counties

A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Champaign County and central Vermilion County in Illinois after thunderstorms dumped between 2 and 4 inches of rain across parts of the area.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln issued the warning at 5:48 a.m. CDT Saturday, with flash flooding reported or expected to begin shortly.

Life-Threatening Flash Flooding

Rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour are possible, creating a considerable flash flood threat across roads, low-lying areas, streams and urban locations.

The warning remains in effect until 9:00 a.m. CDT.

Areas potentially affected include portions of Interstates 72, 74 and 57, along with communities across Champaign and Vermilion counties.

Drivers are urged not to attempt to cross flooded roads.
