Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Manhattan, Kansas, With 60 MPH Winds

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Manhattan and surrounding areas in northeastern Kansas as a powerful storm moved across the region late Thursday.

Storm Approaches Manhattan

The National Weather Service detected the severe thunderstorm near Ogden at 10:13 p.m. CDT on August 13. It was moving northeast at approximately 20 mph.

The warning covers southeastern Riley County and southwestern Pottawatomie County through 10:45 p.m.

Damaging Winds Expected

The storm could produce wind gusts reaching 60 mph, potentially damaging roofs, siding and trees.

Manhattan, Ogden and St. George are among the communities in the storm’s path. Residents were advised to shelter inside an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
