Odin Hensley Dies at 17 After Medical Emergency During Lake Travis Football Practice

Odin Hensley, a 17-year-old senior at Lake Travis High School, has died days after suffering a serious medical emergency during football practice in Austin, Texas.

Odin Hensley Airlifted During Football Practice

Hensley experienced the emergency at approximately 8 a.m. Monday while participating in football practice.

Travis County STAR Flight transported him by helicopter to Dell Children’s Medical Center, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. He died late Wednesday following complications from the emergency.

Lake Travis ISD Confirms Student’s Death

Superintendent Curtis Null announced Hensley’s death Thursday in a letter sent to Lake Travis ISD families and employees.

His teachers and coaches remembered him as a kind and determined young man who was a valued teammate, classmate and friend.

Football Player and Varsity Wrestler

Hensley attended Lake Pointe Elementary School before advancing through the district to Lake Travis High School.

The 6-foot-3 senior was an offensive lineman on the football team and a varsity wrestler. He had reportedly received an offer to continue playing football at McPherson College in Kansas.

Community Mourns Odin Hensley

Approximately 350 people gathered for a prayer vigil Wednesday evening at Lake Hills Church to support Hensley and his family.

Lake Travis High School has made counselors available to students, families and employees as the community mourns his death.
