Fort Worth Stolen Ambulance Chase Ends in Fatal DPS Shooting on I-35 in Austin

A Fort Worth stolen ambulance chase ended in a fatal shooting on Interstate 35 in Austin after authorities said the driver repeatedly rammed vehicles while attempting to escape Texas Department of Public Safety troopers.

Stolen Ambulance Spotted in Williamson County

Texas DPS said troopers were notified at approximately 6:30 a.m. that a stolen Fort Worth Fire and EMS ambulance was travelling south on I-35 through Williamson County.

A trooper located the ambulance and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Authorities said the driver refused to pull over and continued towards Austin.

Driver Allegedly Rammed Multiple Vehicles

The driver began intentionally ramming several vehicles near the Highway 290 area, according to DPS.

Troopers attempted a PIT manoeuvre, but the driver continued evading officers and striking vehicles before entering the upper deck of I-35.

DPS Trooper Shoots Driver on I-35

A DPS trooper fired at the ambulance driver during the confrontation on the upper deck. The driver was struck and died at the scene.

Authorities have not publicly released the driver’s identity. Information about possible injuries involving people in the vehicles that were struck was not immediately available.

I-35 Upper Deck Closed for Investigation

The upper deck of I-35 in Austin will remain closed while authorities investigate the pursuit and fatal trooper-involved shooting.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the affected area, expect significant delays and use alternative routes.
