Severe thunderstorms, large hail threaten southern Rockies and Southeast Arizona

PHOENIX, Ariz. — The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms across parts of the southern Rockies and southeastern Arizona on Tuesday.

Forecasters warn that storms may produce:

  • Damaging wind gusts
  • Large hail
  • Heavy to excessive rainfall, especially across southeastern Arizona, increasing the risk of localized flash flooding.

A Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe thunderstorms also extends across parts of the central Plains, Upper Midwest, and portions of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.

Residents in affected areas are urged to monitor local forecasts and be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions throughout the day.
