Authorities ID man arrested after fleeing police in South LA
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Police Department Saturday identified an armed suspect who allegedly led police on a foot pursuit in South Los Angeles and pointed a gun at an officer, leading to a no-hit, officer-involved shooting.
The suspect now in custody was identified in a police press release as Genhgis Stevenson. The sheriff’s online custody record shows Stevenson’s first name spelled Genghis, his age 45 and his bail set at $200,000.
Officers from the LAPD’s 77th Area Gang Enforcement Detail were in the area of 76th Place and Wadsworth Avenue at 10:10 p.m. Friday when they saw a man “clutching his waistband, and believed he was in possession of a firearm,” according to an updated LAPD statement.
The suspect ran away and led officers on a pursuit east on 76th Place, police said.
