Shooting at East Harlem Barbecue Leaves 3 Shot, 3-Year-Old Injured in Fall

EAST HARLEM, Manhattan (WABC) – A Thursday night barbecue turned violent in East Harlem after gunfire erupted, leaving three adults with gunshot wounds and a young child injured in the chaos.
The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. outside 216 E. 122nd Street. According to NYPD officials, a 25-year-old woman was shot in the right ankle, while two men—ages 33 and 36—were each shot in the right leg. Additionally, a 3-year-old boy suffered minor injuries from a fall during the incident.
The 25-year-old woman and the 33-year-old man were transported to Metropolitan Hospital Center and are in stable condition. The 36-year-old man and the child were taken to Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, also in stable condition.
Witnesses say a barbecue was underway when a gunman and another individual approached and opened fire. One bystander told Eyewitness News that the woman was walking with her husband and child at the time of the shooting.
The suspect, described as a male wearing all black, fled the scene. Authorities have not yet determined whether the victims were the intended targets.
“I saw somebody running after the shooting, but I don’t know who it was,” one witness recounted. “The woman was bleeding, and they had to tie something around her leg.”
No arrests have been made. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Despite the shooting, NYPD data shows that shooting incidents in East Harlem are down 33% compared to this time last year, and down 75% over the past two years.
