Chaos at Ohio School Parking Lot: 5 Shot, 10 Injured by Cars During Unauthorized Teen Gathering

Summit County, OH – July 8, 2025
An unauthorized mass gathering in the parking lot of a school in Akron, Ohio, turned violent early Monday morning, leaving five people shot and 10 others injured after being struck by cars fleeing the scene.

According to Akron Police Lt. Michael Murphy Jr., the incident occurred around 3 a.m. at the Mason Community Learning Center, where 100 to 150 people, mostly teenagers, had gathered without permission for an impromptu party.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows the large crowd panicking as gunshots rang out, with people running for cover. The five shooting victims, aged 14 to 20, were transported to local hospitals. All are expected to survive.

In a statement, Akron Mayor Shammas Malik criticized the late-night gathering, saying:

“Teenagers have no business being out partying at 3 a.m. We need parents and our community to work with us to ensure that children are home when they need to be.”

In addition to the shootings, 10 others were hit or run over by cars attempting to flee the chaotic scene. Fortunately, all injuries were non-life-threatening.

Police are continuing their investigation. No arrests have been made and the identity of the shooter remains unknown.

Authorities are urging anyone with information or video footage of the incident to come forward.
