Three Killed After Plane Crashes Into Mountainside Near Leukerbad, Switzerland

Three people were killed after a light aircraft crashed into a mountainside near Leukerbad in Valais, Switzerland, police said.

The aircraft had departed from Lugano in southern Switzerland and made a stopover in Sion before continuing its journey.

According to Valais Cantonal Police, the plane crashed shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Fluhalp area near Leukerbad, a popular spa and ski resort in the Swiss Alps.

Witnesses reported seeing heavy smoke in the area before emergency crews arrived.

Authorities confirmed that all three people on board died in the crash.

Police are working to formally identify the victims, while investigators examine the circumstances and cause of the accident.
