Amazon Pauses Operations With 21 Air After Deadly Miami Cargo Plane Crash

Amazon is pausing operations with cargo carrier 21 Air after an Amazon-branded cargo plane operated by the company crashed at Miami International Airport, killing five people.

The decision was communicated to 21 Air leadership on Sunday, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The Boeing 767 cargo jet overran the runway while landing in Miami, struck vehicles beyond the airport perimeter and caught fire. Five people were killed and several others were injured.

Amazon suspends 21 Air operations

21 Air has operated cargo flights for Amazon for nearly two years, with several aircraft dedicated to the company’s network.

Amazon said safety remains a priority as federal investigators continue examining the crash and the circumstances surrounding the landing.

NTSB investigation continues

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash, including the aircraft’s speed, crew actions, braking systems and 21 Air’s operating procedures.

Investigators previously said the plane traveled about 1,300 feet beyond the runway before striking vehicles.

The cause of the crash has not yet been officially determined.
