Video: At Least 9 Dead, Several Injured in Nursing Home Fire in Pitrufquén, Chile

At least nine people have died and several others were injured after a fire engulfed a nursing home in Pitrufquén, in Chile’s La Araucanía region, according to news program T13.

Emergency crews and firefighters rushed to the facility as flames spread through the building, launching rescue operations for residents trapped inside.

Firefighters fear more people may be trapped

A local firefighter said there was concern that additional people could still be trapped inside the nursing home, as crews continued searching the structure and working to bring the fire under control.

The number of casualties could therefore change as emergency teams complete their search of the building.

Several injured people were reported following the blaze, although authorities had not immediately released detailed information about their conditions.
