An Amarillo woman was arrested after police said the Jeep she was driving crashed into a tree, seriously injuring her passenger.

Arrest and charges

Felicia Marie Madrid, 32, was booked into the Potter County Detention Center early Sunday on a charge of intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury., According to the arrest report, police were called to the 400 block of South Tyler Street just after midnight for a vehicle that had crashed into a tree.

Police found Madrid in the driver’s seat and Sandi Sanchez on the ground near the front driver’s side of the vehicle.

Sanchez was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital. The report said Madrid could not explain what happened and smelled strongly of alcohol.

She agreed to a field sobriety test but was unable to follow instructions. Madrid consented to a blood draw after her arrest.
