Video: Apple Unveils iPhone Duo, Its First Foldable iPhone

Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone and one of the company’s biggest smartphone design changes in years.

Video from Apple’s launch event shows the passport-sized device opening like a book to reveal a wide interior display. A smaller exterior screen allows the iPhone Duo to function as a conventional smartphone while folded.

iPhone Duo Opens Into a Tablet-Style Display

Apple said the iPhone Duo is its thinnest iPhone when fully opened. The flexible design allows users to view the interior display horizontally or vertically and run applications side by side.

The device also supports Apple Pencil and features a fingerprint sensor positioned on its side.

Apple Enters the Foldable Phone Market

The iPhone Duo arrives more than seven years after Samsung introduced its first Galaxy Fold, placing Apple in direct competition with foldable devices from Samsung, Google and Huawei.

Apple said it focused on improving hinge durability and reducing the visible crease that has affected earlier foldable smartphones.
