Second former Manor ISD employee arrested on injury to a child charge

Manor ISD confirmed Tuesday that a second former employee at Presidential Meadows Elementary has been arrested on a charge of injury to a child, in a case the district says is unrelated to a separate recent arrest involving another former employee at the school.

The district said it is limited in what it can release because of employee and student privacy rights, but confirmed the former employee was removed from campus and placed on administrative leave after the district received the report.

The employee is no longer employed by Presidential Meadows Elementary or Manor ISD, according to the district.

Manor ISD said families of all students identified as being directly involved in the reported incidents have been contacted.

“While these were isolated incidents that coincidentally occurred around the same time, our Presidential Meadows staff have received additional training focused on student management and appropriate employee conduct,” Principal Ms. Valiza wrote in a message to families.

RELATED| Former Manor ISD teacher arrested, accused of pinning child against wall The district said all Manor ISD employees undergo required criminal background checks and fingerprinting before they are hired, but acknowledged that student safety also requires ongoing training, oversight and accountability after employees begin working in schools.

At the district level, Superintendent Dr. Robert Sormani said officials are reviewing practices and expectations to determine whether additional training, support and oversight are needed.

“In each of these recent situations, the District acted upon receiving the reports,” Sormani said.
